“Poqrik Ishkhan” Educational Complex: Environment protection in one of ATP’s best partner schools
“Poqrik Ishkhan” Educational Complex located in the Armenian capital Yerevan, indicates for environmental protection and consistent development.
The educomplex is almost and always involved in various activities iniciated by various environmental organizations.
Throughout the years, the educomplex has implemented a number of environmental and civil projects, revealing their environmental issues and organizing events for finding solution.
The educational complex is rich in many plants, animals, there are alive nature corners, aquariums and large luscinia cage, as well as large collection of minerals.
Children love to visit the birdcage. Both teachers and children equally care for the protection of school’s flora and fauna. In the corridors and stairwells, various projects are on display such as paintings from the painting competition works of art from natural product and recycled materials such as plastic bottles self-made natural bags and much more,
An Eco-club in the Educomplex aims to deepen and strengthen the acquired eco-knowledge and skills through out the practical work.
Kids at educomplex eat twice a day. Everyday students teachers and kitchen staff see how much food ends up in the garbage. This is why the project “less food in garbage” was launched on the subject of waste. The aim is to use food sparingly and in a targeted Manner and thus protect the natural resource. Kids questioned themselves of how they could reduce food waste at school, because there’s no recycling process in Armenia.
Pupils quickly compensated food wastes, which enriched the soil with nutrients for plants. A little green organic vegetable field was created in the park near the school. Eco-friendly and useful vegetables are cultivated which isused in the kitchen of the Educomplex.
It was proposed to build school greenhouses in order to continue the project work to grow vegetables which allows students to make use of it.
The eco project-” less food in garbage” represented to the Geöte Institute which in turn picked the best 3 students in school to attend in an International Conference named”Schools in service of environment” in Germany which will be attended by 20 different nations. Since the students learn German there are no language barriers for the three students and two teachers who will travel to Berlin for four days in May 2018 to present their project, their school and perhaps environmental activities which took place in Armenia.
The creativity and commitment of the school to address the important issues of Environmental Protection and sustainability can be seen in every corner of Poqrik Ishkhan educomplex which is a real model for Armenia. We are so proud of our partner schools and teachers. Special thanks to our teachers Ruzan Simonyan, Ophelia Nazaryan and the school principal Maria khakhamian.
